For the student reader intent on a future career in research, such an encounter is a forthcoming attraction not to be missed; indeed, under the current regime, impossible to miss even if one wanted to.
School ethics committees (SECs) conduct the ethical review and approval of research activities within their School that involve human participants, their data or samples. This responsibility is devolved to SECs by the University Teaching and Research Ethics Committee (UTREC) and is subject to monitoring. Ethics in research concerns two issues: the nature of the research itself and the researcher’s personal conduct.
